This Diwali, Crack it!

Festival of lights… or crackers, more appropriately. We enjoy buying crackers, bursting them and enjoying! We must! After all, it’s our right to celebrate! But just imagine, what is the price we pay to exercise the right? Not about the MRP on cracker box, but the precious time and lives of vast innocents behind the job!

Are we aware that even now over 100,000 children engage themselves in making crackers in Sivakasi (Cracker Town in Tamil Nadu, India) for a daily sum of Rs.10 – Rs.40? Yes we are aware! We are also aware that they do not have any protection; coverage and work in perilous conditions to make the vast majority of us splurge in our monies and buy those crackers!

Do we know that behind every cracker that is bought and burst, there is sweat and actually blood of children who are neglected by us – the literate class? Yes we know.ckers in Sivakasi (Cracker Town in Tamil Nadu, India) for a daily sum of Rs.10 – Rs.40? Yes we are aware! We are also aware that they do not have any protection; coverage and work in perilous conditions to make the vast majority of us splurge in our monies and buy those crackers!

Do we realize that if we cannot make them better, we should at least not make them worse? Yes we realize!

Yet, we buy crackers because it’s our right to celebrate…and we can afford it!

So before you buy crackers this time, watch this linked video and then..go ahead do it!

Our sincere suggestion: Instead of splurging thousands of rupees on crackers done by neglected children, can we invest as little as Rs.1200/- to adopt a child’s education?

If yes, then do yourself an act of good and contact the below NGO (or any other you know of) and adopt a child’s education!

Society for Neglected Children

May this Diwali be a noble one.. a paperless one! This Diwali..Crack it!

Never say I O U!

" A Banker is a person who lends money to you as long as you don't need it", wrote O'Henry, the satire English poet decades ago!

From times of yore, we have been hearing various light hearted sayings on bankers and loans, but we all get serious when we need one! I am sure we all remember the kind of hassle we had to face in India, till almost a decade ago to get loans! It was not enough to have a justified need and the ability to repay it, it was important for the banker to believe that you have the need and the ability to repay! Loan seekers used to be kept in waiting for eternity before giving the nod for the loan!

The last decade has seen a huge influx of money into the market and thanks to the rising salary levels, banks are more than happy to lend money. But queues still exist - of bankers who want to lend you! Wow! What changing times and what change in the attitude! To a large extent, the over-eagerness and unmonitored (unsecured) lending by financial institutions did lead to the famed mortgage bubble burst last year, the ripples of which have still not died down in the Financial Services and other ancillary industries.

The lesson all of us learn from this, is borrow as much as you can repay and repay as soon as you can! More importantly, don't borrow from Peter to repay Tom!

In this era of environment consciousness, it is heartening to see people and organizations doing their bit to conserve natural resources and paper! So next time you need a loan, why not do it a paperless way? When so much of hassle is anyway reduced with banks willing to lend you money, why not get the best deals as well? Why not finish your loan-shopping with ease? Yes..why not? So let's take one decision post this reading - next time, we shop for a loan, let us not apply it on paper. Let us do it online. You have fought enough with the banks to give you loans, now let them fight to get you the best deals! You should simply, compare, apply and fulfill. All with clicks and not papers!

Say it to yourself: It's my loan and I will not get it at the expense of papers!

Shop online, pay on time and say no to paper!

Never say I O U!
